What in tarnation is Day One?

Ever lose an entire day to a Netflix binge?

Then Promise yourself that “tomorrow will be different”

and repeat the exact same thing?

I have.

And it sucks.

Instead of working on my projects, I’d spend another hour with Animal Kingdom and a bag of chips.

By the time I looked outside the window, the sun went down and there were no more episodes left to distract myself.

This went on for years.

Until one key idea turned it all around.

Day One.

Day one is the core idea that every day is a chance to begin again.

If you believe in this, then you’re in the right place.

About me 👈

Ever played those awkward ice breaker games?

Describe yourself in 3 words 🙄

Here’s what I would’ve said 5 months ago:

Jealous, Lazy, Lurker.

I was 24.

Living the “digital nomad” life. Great paying job with lots of impact.

Girlfriend. Doggo.

The whole nine yards.

But I felt empty inside.

Every night after work I would spend my twilight hours doom-scrolling on social media, losing sleep over my insecurities.

Wow…

I wish I could write a blog like that.

I wish I had stories like that to tell.

I wish I could create like they do…

While my bio would read “aspiring writer| aspiring life coach|”.

I was waiting for the day someone would give me the permission to create.

Until one day I reconnected with an old friend at a coffeeshop.

She was a successful entrepreneur with her own podcast, business, and audience.

I was jealous.

“So what have you been writing about, Brian?”

I was embarrassed. I haven’t published a single article in years.

“Oh… just this and that.

I haven’t really gotten the time to sit down and polish a good piece…”

She looked me dead in the eyes and said,

“Either you’re a writer or you’re not. There is no aspiring

—just WRITE!”

Those words stuck with me for the rest of my life.

A couple of weeks later, I joined Ship30for30 and started publishing everyday.

Every. Single. Day.

Monday morning? It’s Day one.

Tuesday morning? It’s Day one.

Wednesday at 11:59 PM? What day is it? It’s fucking Day one.

100 atomic essays in a row later...

Something strange happened.

I started receiving:

  • Job offers

  • Networking requests

  • Projects

  • Contracts

  • Shout-outs from my heroes

Things got even crazier:

  • I started a podcast

  • I became a Twitter ghost writer

  • I captained a ship30 crew

  • I launched a digital product

  • and a whole lot more

So what’s my point?

My point is,

Nothing great is going to happen to you unless you start making moves.

So,

Start now.
