I am a recovering freemium addict.
Why pay for a book when I can YouTube the summary?
Why hire a tutor when I can just use Khan Academy?
Why fork over my hard earned Benjamins… for something I can look up in a fraction of a second?
The thing is…
I LOVE maxing out the “free” part of anything… and I encourage people to save as much money as possible when it comes to self-development.
But as I’ve gotten older I’ve realized the value of paying for information.
Communities, coaching, mentorships… I’ve just barely dipped my toe into the “premium” side of self-growth…
and I gotta say, it’s intoxicating.
It’s like learning on steroids.
No more information overload.
No more aimless wandering.
Just pure execution and guidance.
So it got me thinking…
Why are we willing to fork over our money for school but not online courses?
Why was it “acceptable” for me to pay over ($200k) for a college degree… while a $499 online course seemed outrageous?
After reading $100m Offers by Alex Hormozi I realized it was because of one simple reason.
Belief.
I was 100% confident that my college degree would result in employment.
But was this $499 writing course really going to make me a better writer?
And would that increase my salary? ( Who knows?)
See…
As copywriters, marketers, business owners and anyone that’s pitching an offer…
If you want to succeed in persuading your target:
Your conviction must be stronger than their skepticism.
Your answers must overcome their objections.
I realized that the reason I was willing to spend money on certain courses was because I 100% believed it would help me achieve my goal.
and at the end of the day…
We vote with our money… not our words.
See you next week,
Brian “Freemium” To
P.S. I’m taking Lukas Resheske’s copywriting mentorship for the next 90 days, and Week 1 has been kicking my butt!
