THIS is why people don't follow you.
A Mini Masterclass On The Art Of Creating Irresistible Bios
Howdy folks,
I’d never thought I’d say this but…
Getting COVID this past week, was one of the greatest things to happen to me in 2023.
Aside from feeling like I’m dragging a sack full of bricks across a chalkboard whenever I talk —
I’ve managed to find time to just… chill.
And the relaxation has lead to a new creative surge!
Although, I’m not full back to 100% yet. I’ve been really eager to share this idea with you today.
It’s my first principles break down of Social Media Branding.
If you’re planning to:
Build a personal brand
Launch a digital business
Grow a social media account
Leverage the internet for your business
Start a Twitter account
Then read on!
Why Being Cool Online Is Killing Your Success
In the beginning, when I had zero followers, zero tweets written, and zero knowledge… I thought the best way to grow an account was to be “cool”.
And being cool to me, meant copying what every other Twitter bro was doing.
Gurus told me to do one-liners so I did.
Bros told me to have a cool banner photo so I did.
Social media coaches told me to tweet 10x a day so I did.
And guess what? Nothing worked.
I didn’t know it at the time but copying others was a recipe for disaster.
People noticed me even less
I always felt like I was tweeting into the void
And my growth was as stale as a 2 week old bagel.
Playing the Twitter game felt horrible.
Until I created this framework.
How The “Digital Brick & Mortar” Framework Helps You Hook Readers
Using DBM, I’ve been able to help boat-loads of creators rethink the way they show up online.
I attribute DBM to my 2k audience, to my Twitter ghostwriting success, and a lot more.
The frame work is simple and crazy effective.
All you have to do is ask yourself:
“Does this build trust like a Brick & Mortar?”
Let me explain.
I want you to forget all your preconceived notions of what a Twitter profile should look like. Forget about “building in public. Forget about making friends.
Assume that every Twitter account is like a digital brick and mortar business.
The profile name is the name of the business
The banner + profile picture is the logo/sign
The bio is the ‘category’ of the business. (Clothing, Food, Chocolates, Electronics, Home goods Etc.)
The pinned tweet is the object/display in the window that gets you to come in. (Think of it as bait)
Once you start thinking of Twitter Profiles as a store front you’ll stop trying to be cool, and start showing up as a real business.
Here’s my current profile for reference👇
There should be not doubt in the reader’s mind that my target audience are writers.
Let’s look at a physical example…
What do you think you’ll get when you walk into this store?
CHOCOLATE! Yes!
It practically screams “Willy Wonka”.
Everything about this storefront is like a blaring red siren that’s telling your subconscious “ If you want delicious chocolate creations come on in!”
Check out the “Fine Belgian Chocolates” on top of the door.
Look at the display window of Chocolate samples
See how many times you can find the word “fudge” or “chocolate”.
This is how you create a profile that draws people in.
You must make it 200% obvious who your target audience is, and what it is you offer.
Why People Are Dodging Your Profile Like Floyd Mayweather…
BUT BRIAN…
“I’m so much more than my niche.”
“I’m a multi-faceted individual with many passions!”
“I won’t be locked into one singular topic!”
I’ve heard it all.
Here’s the thing Doubtful Debbie…
Your profile isn’t etched in stone.
Having a messy bio with multiple topic is the equivalent of having a yard sale at the mall.
Sure it has all the items that represent who you are… but there is no cohesion.
People don’t know what to expect from you.
And when they don’t know what to expect from you, they’re more likely to move onto the next thing.
And expectations are the key to building trust.
“Expectations are the KEY to building trust. And Trust is the building block of your business.”
Cuz, if I don’t trust you?
I sure as hell ain’t giving you my hard earned cash.
Now… it wouldn’t be a masterclass if I didn’t give you an homework.
Do This One Thing ✍️
Take a screenshot of your profile and put yourself in the eyes of a total stranger.
From your new perspective and ask yourself:
What is this person selling?
What are they talking about?
What would I get from this person?
Would I follow this person?
TL;DR 😘
Don’t be cool, be obvious.
Every digital profile is really just a brick and mortar store.
Expectations are the key to building trust. Trust is what gets you paid.
That’s it for this week!
Thanks for reading fam,
Brian “Don’t be cool” To.
P.S. Sorry for missing the past two weeks! After catching the VID’ I decided to take a hard break and just focus on being a vegetable.
