I've always believed that there are two ways to look at the world:
The "oh shit I'm going to die" way.
and
The "this is an adventure" way.
Lately, I've been feeling a bit more like the former.
Just a few days ago...
I quit my cushy and supportive copywriting job at Wizards of Wordcraft -- and I'm feeling all the feels that come with it.
There's the initial relief and elation of finally being free from a job.
Then there's the nagging feeling of unease and anxiety about what the future holds.
"How will I make money now?"
"What will I do with my days?"
"Is the world economy really going to ruins and are we all going to die broke?"
These are the questions that keep me tossing and turning at night.
Then again...
There's something to be said for taking the time to stop and smell the roses. đč
But when you're jobless, it can feel like there's nothing to smell but the stink of unemployment. đ©
That's why I sat down and created my own journal prompt to reflect on this time in my life.
It's called self-journal prompting.
And it's the ONE thing that helped me get through some of the hardest times in my life.
So instead of stewing in my own anxiety, or starting at a blank page with a feeling of dread...
Do this to give yourself immediate direction.
The best part is?
It only takes 5 minutes and is light years more efficient than free writing randomly.
Open up a journal and write down 5-7 questions that you want to answer about your current situation.
Here are some of the questions I came up with for myself:
How do you feel in this exact moment?
What are you thinking about? Whatâs on your mind?
Whatâs something you can do to help yourself in this exact moment?
Whatâs something you can do tomorrow to help yourself?
What would future or past you say to the âcurrentâ you right now?
I highly recommend self-journal prompting the next time you find yourself in a situation where you're feeling lost, uncertain or just need some clarity.
And as you get better at it...
You questions become more powerful and specific.
You start to see connections that you never saw before.
And most importantly,
You can go from:
"The world is crashing and burning..."
to
"Oh, this is just another adventure."
Tilâ next time,
