Hey folks,
Sorry for not sending out the past 2 issues of DOCs.
I’ve come down with a bad case of New-Year-itis.
You’ve probably heard of this seasonal disease before…
It’s the feeling of:
The pressure to set a BIG New Years Resolution 🎯
Perfectionism in everything you pursue ✨
Chasing multiple opportunities 🏃♂️
and because of all these symptoms…
I’d rather spend 10 hours reading perfect blog posts and new year articles than sit down and publish my newsletter!
In other words— lots of avoidance.
So I’ve decided to go back to basics, and keep things simple this 2022.
No more lofty grand New Years Resolutions…
Instead, I’m going to be stealing a page from Christine Trac on setting intentions for the year.
It’s called the 60/30/10 rule.
Aside from being a really catchy locker combination, it’s also a popular ratio used to create balanced color palette, and is a time management rule in construction.
I find that keeping your NYR’s loose and general can be a helpful way to not destroy your self esteem, while giving you just enough direction to align your actions.
Here’s how I’m allocating my energy this 2022.
The 60/30/10 time management rule
60% Copy Writing ✍
This 2022, I want to really invest into my development as a writer and see how much I can improve.
Metrics I’m using to measure my progress:
Amount of edits/red ink from my copy editor
# of open rates and $ of sales generated from my copy
Bi-weekly check-ins with my mentor
A spider graph of my Copy Writing skills.
The one obstacle: Getting swept up into work, writing too much, and not measuring my improvement.
The solution: Embrace active learning, and focus on my “gainz”.
30% Fitness 💪
I signed up for some virtual training in December to start January strong. So far, I’ve been hitting the gym with a +90% success rate.
Metrics I’m using to measure my progress:
My Bench and Squat % gains
Bi-weekly photos of my body
The # of times I log a workout
The one obstacle: I am horrible at watching my nutrition. Thus, I often eat too little or eat too much junk food.
The solution: I’ll do some experiments in public to learn how to measure my macros!
10% Personal Branding 🌱
Last year I went all in on Twitter and because of that I gained some amazing connections, opportunities, and lessons. I want to keep on writing in public and leveraging the power of the internet.
Metrics I’m using to measure my progress:
My Twitter follower count
# of essays/articles published
How many people refer to me as the “ X guy” ( I haven’t determined what cool rapper nickname will be my internet alias, but for now I’ve been settling on Atomic Copywriter.)
The one obstacle: I’m semi-consistent with posting on Twitter but when I’m too busy things fall to the wayside.
The one solution: I’ll repurpose more content and find ways to publish items ahead of time.

LOVE this buddy. I'm going through a lot of the same New Year-itis as you. Love the 60-30-10 strategy and I just might have to implement that.
