How I Went Viral And Burned Out: And Why You Should Too
Part 2 of the "3x your Twitter Growth... "
In February 2021…
I was consuming growth hacking guides like crazy.
Not gonna lie, I felt like a crackhead trying to reach 1000 followers. June to July felt like a real hustle to be on Twitter 24/7. I was publishing constantly and managing 2 accounts at the same time.
I “finally” became a writer.
I was shipping daily Atomic essays for the Ship30for30 challenge. I was bulk uploading tweets every week.
One time I remember writing a 🧵thread for 4 HOURS only to get 2 likes.
And Even though I was growing… it didn’t feel sustainable.
I joined Twitter because it looked fun, and instead I became a Twitter zombie.
I lost track of what it meant to be a creator. 👈
It’s not about hacking the “algo” or growing your follower count.
It’s about:
Helping your audience 🙌
Making an impact 🌎
Having fun 🎉
I didn’t become a creator to go viral…
I became a creator because I enjoy making things that help other people.
My Takeaway: Results are nice but what’s the price you’re willing to pay to get what you want?
It sounds cliché, but unless you know what you’re sacrificing you’ll never get what you want.
There’s always a price to be paid.
If you don’t sacrifice for what you want, what you want will be the sacrifice.
Everyone that’s serious about growing on Twitter will hit this point of “unsustainable”.
Am I saying it’s healthy? Hell no.
But until you hit your limits you’ll never know what you’re capable of.
It’s like signing up for P90X 🏋️♀️
You’re up late one night coach potatoing and the P90x infomercial blares on your T.V.
“Radically TRANSFORM your body in 90 Days!”
“Get in the BEST shape of your LIFE!”
8 video testimonials and 4 six pack ab photos later…
You place an order and eagerly await your instant transformation.
The next day comes…
You pop that bad boy into your DVD player1 and you’re ready to bring the heat.
YES! I’m ready to transform my life.
30 minutes later…
You’re gasping for air and slipping on your own pool of sweat.
and you realize
“I have to do this for 89 more days?”
and what you really wanted wasn’t to radically transform your body in 90 days.
You just wanted to feel fit, healthy, and not so lazy.
Sometimes you have to hit that wall to really find out what you want.
TL;DR
Don’t obsess over the metrics
Sometimes you have to crash and burn to find out what you really want
Ask yourself why you decided to become a creator
