For most of my life, writing went like this…
Type 2 sentences. Erase 1 sentence. Type 2 sentences. Erase 1 sentence.
Look back up at the title. Read every word top to bottom.
Realize I spent the past 37.5 minutes writing one paragraph.
Throw my hands up in the air…
Give up and blame perfectionism, lack of time, and lack of ability.
and tell myself I'll publish it…
Some Other Day.
And this cycle went on for YEARS.
At the end of each ‘writing session’…
I’d slump in my chair defeated, with my head hung low, wondering where all my motivation and zest went.
It felt like I'll never truly be a writer.
The Answer I Found
It wasn’t until last year, when I completed a 30 day writing challenge that I realized...
It doesn't matter how much you write.
It only matters how often you publish.
Being a writer isn’t about how articulate you are.
Being a writer is about how consistent you are.
If you can show up and write something, anything...
Every single freaking day...you are a writer.
The key to it all?
BEAT THE SOD.
Beat the voice that says “some other day”.
Beat the temptation that says “give up”.
Beat the procrastination that says “later”.
Write.
Publish.
Repeat.
It doesn’t matter how good or bad your writing is.
The only thing that matters is that you’re doing the damn thing.
If you can do that, day in and day out…
You my friend, are a writer.
Till next week,
